Big Idea:
What can I do to teach others about my SDG and help my community implement one of the SDGs?

Students will have three primary goals for this unit.
First, they will be working to research a chosen SDG and consider a scenario-based lesson. Second, they will need to determine how they will educate others in terms of their SDG, for most people know very little about the SDGs. Finally, they will be creating a multimedia presentation and persuasive letter meant to convince people to take action regarding their SDG. Be thinking about these three aspects of the project at all times.
Alternatively, students can
construct an explanation based on evidence for how the availability of natural resources, the occurrence of natural hazards, and changes in climate have influenced human activity OR
evaluate or refine a technological solution that reduces the impacts of human activities on natural systems.
Extension: Enter your multimedia project in the worldof8billion video contest.
Extension: Use the Five Thinking Hats Method when reading: Five Thinking Hats is a simple, effective parallel thinking process that helps people be more productive, focused, and mindfully involved.
You and your team members can learn how to separate thinking into six clear functions and roles. Each thinking role is identified with a colored symbolic “thinking hat.” By mentally wearing and switching “hats,” you can easily focus or redirect thoughts, the conversation, or the meeting.

"Step to the Line"

Your teacher has placed a line of tape on the floor. Half of the class should line up on one side of the line and the other half on the other side. When your teacher reads a statement, if you agree with it, step to the line. If you don't agree, do not step to the line. In either case, have your research and notes handy so that you can respond to questions related to the statements.
Assignment
"Step to the Line" Debrief
Compete for the KWL chart with your teacher's help. This tool can help you to organize your thoughts and beliefs even more before working on your multimedia presentation, your scenario analysis, and your persuasive letter. Post your chart to the class Padlet.
Assignment
Articles-SDGs
Choose an article related to an SDG that may interest you. Read it and be prepared to use the information in it to assist you with the next task.
Assignment
Write a 10% Summary of the article you chose.
Here is a blank version of the template.
Here is an example. Share your thoughts with your partner.
Affinity Diagram
Now that you have read from several sources related to the SDGs in San Antonio and participated in activities related to this, it is time to start formulating an argument. In specific, based on what you have read and what you know, you will need to demonstrate that your city is or is not doing enough to deal with your SDG. Your teacher will assist you with this process. Use the graphic organizer method below to determine whether you believe the city is or is not doing enough to deal with your SDG. Post your chart to the class Padlet. Again, teachers can modify these lessons for students interested in other SDGs. Use the Affinity chart overview below to organize your thoughts and critique initial ideas.

Misconceptions
Having read your article and experienced the other pre-asssessment activities, can you see how kids might have misconceptions about climate change? What might those be? Talk with your reflection partner about this.
